Practicum

Practicum starts on 12 May 2008. Thanks to Jaime, I received my things few days ago.

Few months earlier, I wrote down my name in my name tag as M. F. Lee. Now, I regret it...a lot.
First of all, I believe students being the most 'kepo' and curious creature on the earth, they will be very interested to know what does MF stands for. I should have just wrote my name as LEE. Argh...

Secondly, MF could represent a lot of other acronyms. Amy Teng has already taken the first opportunity to laugh at me when she saw my name tag.

M. F. Lee - Mother fucker Lee
M. F. Lee - Muka fucker Lee

Being the Most Foolish Lee, I now wish that I should have just wrote LEE. LEE. LEE... Arrgghh...

Next is the Buku Persediaan Mengajar, which is so so so thick and heavy. It is compulsory to bring it everyday to school! But this is not the difficult part. The hardest part is filling those pages with writing and more writing.

I thought since it will only be 8 weeks of teaching (then minus 2 weeks of exam), I would only have 6 weeks of teaching. So, I guess that I might only be able to write until half of the book.

I was VERY VERY wrong. I saw a book done by Tiew Mee's senior. It was filled with writing - every pages of it. Then at the very back, there are even extra bundles of papers added because the thick book is not enough to write down all the lesson plans.

So in eight weeks, I should write 500 to 600 pages of lesson plans. *faint*

Looking forward for practicum. It will definitely be a very memorable experience. I have accommodation, transportation, food, internet, money and extra classes all in place. I am so ready.

Here I come!

How to marry

There was a man who had 3 very loving girlfriends. They are all pretty and nice. And he's having great trouble trying to decide who to marry. So, he gave each one of them $5,000 and see what they do with the money.

The first one, went out shopping. Bought nice clothes & do up her hair and everything. She said to him: "I love you so much that I spent all the money to make myself look pretty and nice because I know you like it. Just for you." He's touched. This girl did everything so that he will love her.

The second girlfriend took the money and bought all kinds of nice clothes and latest gadgets for him. She said to him: "I love you so much that I spent all the money to buy you gifts and things that you like. I love you so much that I left nothing for myself." He's very touched. She gave everything to him.

The third girlfriend took the money and invested them into the stock market.
Within 5 days, the money doubled. She took out the $5000, gave it back to him and the balance she opened another investment account. She said to him: "I love you so much that I'll help you grow your money so you won't have to worry about living. I'll take care of everything for you.". Naturally, he's touched too. This girl is so intelligent and so loving.

Then he had to make a decision on who to marry; and he decided to marry the one with the biggest breasts.

My sister's wedding

My sister's wedding is one of those life-changing moments in my life.

These are the pictures that she and Jimmy took before the wedding.

I don't quite like the above pictures. According to my sister, those were among the last pictures taken. They had been posing since 8am till 5pm. Therefore, one can see that they were already very tired.
The wonderful primary photo of their wedding!

So after the tiring photo session, the time comes for the wedding itself. Relatives from all over the states come to the humble town of Sarikei to have the wedding lunch. The lunch was held for two days - first day for the female's family, second day for the male's family.

According to ritual, my sister was supposedly to leave her house and move to her husband's house.

That morning, everyone was busy but happy. Jimmy's friends came and they had some games with my sister's friends. Of course, all the obstacles were successfully bridged, so Jimmy went and took his wife. Then the kow tow session began.
My sister leaving the house - a symbol that she now belongs to someone else. Everyone kept telling her - Don't look back, don't look back. Hmmm...got some wet eyes during these moments...

Welcome to the new house!Kow tow session again...
These are my sister's friends. They all took leave and flew across from Peninsular Malaysia to attend the wedding.

My sister's new family.

Where is my nephew/niece? :-p

Yes!!!

Kolej Uungku Omar - Affordable rent, convenient, good facilities!

Doors

There is a row of doors in front of her. Some are close, some are open. Occasionally, when one closes, another will be opened for her.

There is one particular door that she likes. She spends many hours, many years inside it, savoring the moments and enjoying the companions inside.

One day, as usual, she visits the door. She is surprised to see that it has been closed. She thinks that it is only temporary so she doesn't do anything.

As days go by, she begins to get more and more worried. She knocks the door. The door is opened, only slightly ajar and the people inside talk to her in a very unfriendly manner. But she keeps knocking the door, hoping it will open wider as days pass. But the day comes when the door is not opened at all.

She shouts, bumps the door loudly - still it remains silent. She begs and she cries - and still the door is closed. The chaos that she is creating started to attract the attention of other people from other doors. They come out from their comfy place and comfort her.

She ignores them all, her only comfort is when that particular door is opened for her. Days...weeks...and months go by. The door is silent.

People from the other doors continue to comfort her. Slowly but surely, she sees them, and feels their concern. She starts to accept their help and starts venturing into their doors.

She sees that she has a lot of other doors, that all these years she has ignored. She knows that she is one lucky gal to have so many doors open up widely for her.

She is coming to terms with the closed door. Instead she is going to enjoy the best there are in all the other open doors.

When one door closes, lots of other doors will be opened for you.

KL International Book Fair 2008

I started my day by typing out a 'begging' letter to allow me to stay in my college, Kolej Ungku Omar. After given the letter to the clerk, I went to fetch Jia Yi and we went for lunch at the new Sushi King in Alamanda. The RM2 Bonanza is on so we get to eat everything for RM2.

Then she wanted to buy something from the pharmacy. So we walked around the place. Suddenly, a woman stopped us and said, "Cik, boleh tolong buat survey sekejap?"

I should have walked passed her and ignored her. But I wasn't used to be so rude. So, I turned to her, smiled and said, "Sorry, but we don't have a lot of time."

I guess I made a mistake. Instead of accepting my excuse, she became more aggressive. "Bolehlah cik, lima minit sahaja. Saya dari **@#*@*#* mahu buat *#*@*@# untuk *#@*#*@#"

Jia Yi and I walked faster. She became frustrated and finally said rudely and angrily, "Lima minit pun tak ada ke?"

But luckily, after the last remark, she didn't follow us anymore.

After sending Jia Yi back to the engineering faculty, I went to KL IBF 2008 (refer above title) held at PWTC.

PWTC is situated opposite of The Mall. When I saw The Mall, I suddenly remember I have been here before with Mdm Angie!

And PWTC is next to Sri Pacific Hotel.

After a walk from Putra station, I reach PWTC. I walked past rooms that are named after states - Bilik Johor, Bilik Sarawak etc.
There wasn't a lot of people around, it might be due to weekdays. Or Malaysians are simply doing what they do best - reading two books a year.
There was a lot of students though. School trips I guess. I noticed that most of them bought comics (Apo?, Gila-gila, Ujang) and reference books.

I entered the book fair and I was amazed by the books collection.

Books...
Rows and rows of books

And more books!
The books are cheap too!
Imagine, getting a Sidney Sheldon book for just RM15. So are John Grisham and James Patterson. There are a lot of other famous writers' works that are sold for RM15, you just need the patience to find it amidst the thousands of books.
I believe the above book will be very humourous, but it is just not worth my RM15.

I stood for hours looking at all the books. After that, I visited the washroom. However, on my way, a guy promoter stopped me.

Promoter : Adik, dah kerja ke belum?
Me : Belum. (I should have ignored him!)
Promoter : Oh, jadi masih belajar. Mana belajar?
Me : Adalah.
Promoter : Mana belajar?
Me : Universiti.
Promoter : Universiti mana tu?
Me : Adalah.
Promoter : Univesiti mana?
Me : Adalah...(I don't reveal details to strangers! At this point, I started to walk away, but he blocked my way.)
Promoter : Ok, tak apa. Saya nak tanya sikit. Daripada semua bahasa ini, ada berapa adik pandai cakap?

(He showed me a paper and I saw at the top of the paper, "Belajar Bahasa Inggeris dengan lebih mudah!")

Me : Oh, saya fikir saya tidak sesuailah dengan ini. (trying to walk away)
Promoter : Dengar saya cakap dulu. Adik pandai berbahasa Inggeris tak?
Me : Pandai (still walking away)
Promoter : You orang memang semuanya pandai!

(Out from toilet - I had to walk past his place again, it is afterall the only way. He stopped me again.)

Promoter : Adik, beritahulah mana adik belajar. Universiti mana? (Aduh, why so persistent?)
Me : Er...UPM.
Promoter : Oh, UPM. Ambil course apa?
Me : (getting really frustrated) TESL!
Promoter : So you know how to speak English?

And I simply glared at him and walked. He didn't stop me this time. He have zero in PR skills. He should look for other jobs other than becoming a promoter.

Anyway, I bought...
For Alvin. He loves Robin Cook, though I don't find him write as well as many other authors.
For my sister. If she knows everything inside and doesn't need the book, then it is for me...Just curious about Alzheimer.

The end of 9 April 2008.

Saying Goodbye

7 April 2008. Night. Alvin's grandmother passed away today.

I never get to meet the great person that Alvin often talked about. I remember Alvin telling me that he would usually drop by her house after work to hang out and to spend some time with her. We made a plan before CNY to meet her and introduce me but somehow, the plan never materialised. Now, it is too late. She would never have the chance to meet me, and neither do I now have the chance to meet one of Alvin's loved ones.

Condolences to Alvin and his family. Take care you all.

Bla...bla....bla

I have nothing to do in my room. So, I decide to go exploring around Bangi.

Suddenly, I see an aL-ikhsaN shop! Someone told me sometime ago that isolated aL-ikhsaN shops sell cheaper Nike and Adidas shoes. My roommate, Jia Yi had also told me about this shop near UKM.
I am very excited. So excited that I keep taking the wrong turning and it takes me another 15 minutes before I find the entrance. So I park my bike and walk quickly inside.

The shoes ARE CHEAPER than usual. Not as cheap as the shop in Johor near UTM, but cheap enough compared to the other Nike shoes price that I have seen around KL. I can't find any Nike shoes that I like though so I disappointedly walk out. But for the next trip to this shop, I would like to survey Adidas shoes instead. :-)

Then I continue my lone journey around Bangi. And I arrive here.Kompleks PKNS Bangi. I always saw the sign PKNS but I never knew that it was a shopping complex.
The inside is almost the same with Plaza Bintang. Lots of baju kurung on sale! Anyone needs more for practicum?

There is a KFC inside. But overall, I would have prefer Plaza Bintang better as there are KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonald there.

The end of today's exploration.

My hostel welcomes three new kittens. They are just a few days old.
The mother is fiercely protective. I only get to take the picture above when the mother is away to quench her thirst.
Then she is back to the same spot, and won't allow me to get any nearer...

Uh-huh...

Andy Lau

I was surfing the net when I read about Andy Lau rescuing a fan from his own bodyguards.

It happened way back in January, I just get to know about it now. But the video is worth watching. Of course, people starts to say he is a hero, but in showbiz, things sometimes don't appear as they are.

So I will be neutral.

Poster

I was supposedly to hand in the poster at 2pm, during Miss Dhaya's class.

This morning, I received a message saying her class was canceled. I continued my sleep. At 11am, I went to print the poster, but due to my carelessness, I forgot to put the file into my pen drive. So I went back room.

I reach room at 1140. While I was transfering the file into my pendrive, it suddenly occurred to me that Miss Dhaya had said to hand in from 10am to 12noon if there was no class. Sh#t! 20 more minutes.

I rushed to the shop, forgot my jacket in the rush. It's almost noon, the sun was bright and painful to my skin. After waiting in line for few minutes, I printed out the poster. Then a thought hit me. The poster is in A3 size, I can't fold it, so how to bring it back UKM? My bike doesn't have a basket. Letting out a sigh of desperation, I just stuff it into my sling bag and rushed to Pusat Bahasa.

I put my poster (a bit remuk already) into Miss Dhaya's bag at 1205. First time in my life, I hand in an assignment late. Ouch...

CSS Annual Dinner 2008

I wanted to blog this as fast as possible before I forget the moments and the feelings.

Tonight is the CSS UKM Annual Dinner 2008. We started at around 7pm and it is almost past midnight when I reached my room. I had so much fun during the dinner. :-)

So this blog will contain many many pictures with less typing. A picture is worth a thousand words...

The foyer of Country Heights

The main door entrance with flower petals and candles

Next are the performances pictures...
Tribal-Mix Dance

Dancing to a Jay Chou's song

And then there was a modern Indian dance by James, Eileen, Stephanie, Darryl and two more people that I had forgotten. I didn't take a picture of their performance because it was time to take our food - so I was busy eating. The food is splendid!! Totally worth my RM40. There's everything - steak, spaghetti, rice, pizza, sushi, chicken, vegetable, mushroom soup, juice, bread - best dinner I ever been to.

Instrumental performance

This is called Connie's performance. It is a long story why it is called as that when Connie wasn't even performing...

Passover ceremony, the new EXCO replacing the old EXCO. Sad...

MSG (Mandarin Speaking Group) performance. I was in it.

There's even a video of this performance. The performance is just doing some sign language in accordance with a Chinese song. It's simple but it was fun practicing with them.

Singing performance with a very interesting slide as the background

Lindsay's wonderful voice

Some of the brave souls that joined the karaoke session

Best dressed award male and female

Next is some pictures of me and my new and old friends in CSS! These are taken throughout the dinner.

After all the wonderful performances, next was photography session.
Lining up for pictures

Taking group photo. I do not have the group photo yet.

The atmosphere and situation during the dinner

And then it was dance floor! I was surprised that so many people in CSS can actually dance! They are so happy - without any alcohol!
Mark can really dance!

Finally the dinner ended.
Old EXCO

New EXCO

The Annual Dinner committee who have made all the fun possible!

Waiting at the foyer for transportation back. We three are from KUO!

Couldn't resist the temptation to jump into it

And the picture that I like the most from all pictures that are taken that night.
Haha...I look ok, Lydia looks pretty. Simply love the picture...

Tiring night, but worth every muscles of it. Going to sleep now.

*happy*
